I like how I was able to easily adapt this pattern. I think that I may paint a design on the handles. I am pretty pleased with how it turned out. I struggled with it and debated whether or not I should simply do a button closure like in some of the adapted patterns but I stuck it out! I sewed the handles on and a bead in the center of the flower. It took me some time to get it right because it bunched up on one side and I made stitches too tight.

I free handed the attachment of the zipper, so it would stay straight and even. I made 36 rows and single stitched the ends together.

I don’t have a sewing machine, so I tend to star away from projects that include lining and machine sewing a zipper. If I put a loose pen in my purse or change, it won’t fall out.

One of the things about the star stitch is that it creates a thick texture and fabric. Then I started my first row for the star stitch. I crocheted the foundation row according to this length. I measured how long the zipper was and determined that the length of the body of the purse needed to be at least nine inches. I used Aunt Lydia’s thread in black single crochet in the the first stitch chain two and single crochet in the top of the next scallop. The zipper that I used was from Michaels, too. I used one skein and a little more for sewing things together. For the purse, I used Isaac Mizrahi yarn called Ambassador (essentially a dark purple) that I purchased from Michaels. I saw a couple different alterations of the flower design, but I actually liked the flower which was based on an Irish rose crochet design. It had a flow on the ends and a puff or bobble stitch for the body portion in the original design. I created this purse after seeing a pattern called the Mermoz round bag. I need more space stuff in my life! I am sure you will see a theme over the next few months. I am completely obsessed with all things stars related now because of how awesome Star Wars was. I call this piece the Starry Purse because the shiny flecks remind me of the stars and the body of the purse is created by using the star stitch.
